Notification of acceptance

Eligibility

  • You must be the recipient of a 3Arts award between 2008 and 2016. Artists who receive a 3Arts award in 2017 are not eligible to apply for 2017-2018 residency fellowships.
  • Past recipients of a 3Arts Residency Fellowship must wait one year to re-apply. For example, if you received a 3Arts Fellowship in 2016-17, you must wait until 2018 to re-apply.
  • Artists must be able to commit to a residency of one month in 2018.

Terms

If accepted, Fellows will receive:

  • A one-month residency in 2018 at one of the participating residency programs
  • Airfare to/from the residency
  • A cash stipend to offset other costs of the residency

Stipends will be disbursed by the Alliance of Artists Communities, at least one month prior to the start of the residency.

(*Please note: Stipends are considered taxable income by the IRS. The Alliance of Artists Communities will issue a 1099 to each artist, as well as to the IRS; artists are responsible for any related taxes owed.)

How to Apply

Applications for 3Arts Residency Fellowships will be accepted through Submittable.

Application deadline: March 13, 2017, 11:59pm EST.
Please note, customer service will not be available after 5pm EST. It is recommended that you begin your application well in advance of the deadline so that we may assist you if you have difficulty and to ensure completion.

To apply, you will need to do the following:

(1) Determine your site preferences

Each residency site offers different scheduling availability, facilities, services, and amenities. Read through the descriptions of each site to determine your preferences. Applicants for 3Arts Residency Fellowships are reviewed by all participating residency programs. While every attempt will be made to match applicants with their first or second choice sites, in some cases artists may be selected by other residencies. If you have questions about specific equipment or other site details, please contact grants@artistcommunities.org. Please note: all residency stays must be for a one-month duration, not more or less, regardless of whether a particular residency site offers different scheduling options within their regular programming.

(2) Prepare your work samples and work sample index

WORK SAMPLES: You may submit any combination of the following of recent, relevant work, not to exceed 8 total work samples

-- Images: up to 8 images (JPG)
-- Audio: up to 3 audio files (MP3, M4a, WAV)
-- Video: up to 3 video files (MP4, MOV, AVI, MPG, 3GP, FLV, WEBM, WMV)
-- Plays: up to three 5-page excerpts or one full play (PDF)

To include links to video and/or audio files online, include a direct URL to the work sample (not a link to a general website or portfolio) on your "Work Sample Index".

WORK SAMPLE INDEX: In a single PDF file, list each work sample, including title of piece and year. Be sure uploaded file names correspond to titles. As applicable, also list dimensions, materials, performers, etc., and an optional brief description of the work. If the work is the result of a collaboration, indicate your role in its creation.

(3) Complete the online application. You'll first be asked to sign in or create a free Submittable account on the application page. You will then be asked to provide the following:

  • Your first, second, and third choice of residency sites (you may also indicate "no preference").
  • Your scheduling availability for a residency in 2018 (this is to give the residencies a general idea of your seasonal availability; if you don't know of any scheduling limitations to-date, simply indicate "no preference" or "unknown"). Please note, applications stating limited availability will be harder to accommodate and therefore may result in a lower ranking of consideration.
  • A brief statement of interest (300 words or less): Why would you like to participate in a residency at this time? What are you currently working on or might like to work on during a residency?
  • Any special requirements (specific equipment, access to facilities, accessibility, or other needs) you have during a residency.
  • An optional statement about your current work, future plans, new ideas, etc. (150 words or less).

:: The application period closed March 13, 2017 ::
