Applying for Visions from the New California
APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 23, 2011
APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Applicants are required to apply online.
- We recommend you prepare your work samples and support materials before you begin the online application. You will have the opportunity to save your application and return to it later.
- The application must be submitted by 11:59pm PST on May 23, 2011. Applications that have been started but not submitted by the deadline will not be accepted.

WORK SAMPLES:
You may submit up to 7 examples of work from the previous 2 years. You may submit images or videos, but no more than 7 total work samples. All samples must be uploaded online.
You will be asked to submit the following for each work sample: title, date, materials, and dimensions. You will also have the opportunity to provide further descriptions of each piece.
- Still images:
- All image files must be .jpg files and in the RGB color space
- Images should be sized no larger than 1240 x 1240 pixels (in other words, 1240 pixels on the longest side), but can be less than 1240 x 1240 pixels. A smaller image will be shown against a 1240 x1240 black background.
- Prior to uploading, be sure that the file name of the image file on your computer does not contain any characters other than a-z, A-Z and 0-9. The file name also has to be a continuous string of characters, it cannot contain blank spaces. Additionally, the file name must have the .jpg extension. An example of a valid file name would be image1.jpg
- Video:
- No more than 3 video samples are permitted.
- No more than 5 minutes of video samples will be reviewed in total. Selections may be edited/shortened to fit submission time restraints. Video clips should begin with your strongest work. For more information about preparing video for submission, please visit our FAQ section.
- All video files must be in the Flash Video Format (.flv). (For more information on this format, please click here.)
- It is recommended that you save the video in the highest quality and size that is feasible. A width of 400 pixels or more is recommended.
- An uploaded video file must not exceed 5 minutes and 50 MB in size.

SUPPORT MATERIALS:
- Statement of interest: Why you are interested in this award and/or why you would like to participate in a residency (300 words or less)
- Special requirements you may have or equipment you may need during a residency (150 words or less)
- Statement about your current work (300 words or less)
- Educational background (150 words or less)
- Awards or residencies: please give dates and award amounts (300 words or less)
- Grants or fellowships: please specify project-specific or unrestricted funds, and give dates and award amounts (300 words or less)
- Resume/exhibition history (PDF or Word attachment)
