“My work explores the relationship between political faith and religious faith through an examination of the political climate in the post-WW2 Middle East. Through my work I attempt to reexamine and reevaluate history while also touching on the broader issues related to these historical events that still effect our lives today. Being able to step outside of my day-to-day life and focus completely on my work will allow me to explore new areas in my practice. I am also interested in attending a residency outside my immediate area so that I can be exposed to new ideas and surroundings.... Stepping outside of my comfort zone will have a positive impact on my work, studio practice and familiarity with art communities outside of the Los Angeles area.”

Both are essential components in my art practice.”

“I did not go to art school in order to work in an office. In order for me to fully understand how my work functions in the world, and not just the art world, I must make the work. In order for me to fully understand the ways in which I as an artist and cultural producer arrive at a vocabulary that means something, that extends, contributes to and expands the discourse...I must make the work. Although financial stability is a real and crucial necessity for me to thrive as an artist, time and space are just as significant. I am at a critical point in my practice and the Visions award offers me the time, space and sufficient funding to focus 100% on projects that require all three elements in order to advance toward.”
