I know that as the manager of an artists’ residency program, I sit in a very important seat. What I do every day really matters. I have always been committed to supporting artists and am pleased that we are linked to your organization which positively enhances the productivity of so many programs and artists in this country. Thank you for what you do.

About the Alliance

The Alliance of Artists Communities is the service organization for the field of artists’ communities and residencies. The Alliance gives a collective voice on behalf of its members, small and large, that leverages support for the field as a whole; promotes successful practices in the field; and advocates for creative environments that support the work of today’s artists.

Believing that the cultivation of new art and ideas is essential to human progress, the Alliance’s mission is to advocate for and support artists’ communities, in order to advance the endeavors of artists.

The Alliance is one of the few national organizations representing programs that support aritsts in all disciplines, believing that collaboration and exchange that cross traditional boundaries furthers our culture’s progress.

The Alliance includes more than 250 members – a diverse field of artists’ communities, residency programs, individuals, and institutions that support living artists in the creation of new work – from across the U.S. and in more than a dozen countries worldwide. (For more information on these members see our Organizational Members page.)

We provide:
  • a forum on support for today’s artists
  • professional development opportunities to the field
  • research and benchmarking data
  • funding partnerships – bringing new financial resources to the field
We connect:
  • our members to each other through networking opportunities
  • artists, students, and others to information on artists’ communities
  • the field to other professionals in the arts, sciences and beyond
We advocate:
  • on behalf of the field of artists’ communities and creative environments in general, to funders, policymakers, researchers, and the public
