As a member of the Alliance, I’m regularly reminded of the passion and idealism motivating the members. There is a wealth of insight to be gained by paying attention to the great diversity of programs organized to achieve this end. The enthusiasm generated by this network is greater than the sum of its parts—it is a profound experience to get together with others who take it for granted that creative artists should be honored and supported in their work while they’re alive.

Residency Directory

The Alliance of Artists Communities is the premier information source on residencies in the U.S., and in partnership with its international sister organizations -- Res Artis and TransArtists -- is a comprehensive resource for residencies worldwide.

The Residency Directory includes Alliance Organizational and Emerging Program members, as well as non-member residencies. (See a list of Alliance Organizational Members only.)

To search by name: If you are looking for a specific residency by name, go to our Residency Search and enter the name of the residency.

This listing includes three types of profiles:
IconDescription
Organizational Member Residencies that have provided detailed information on their programs (U.S. and international) – you must be a subscriber and logged in to view details
Nonmember Residency Residency programs that have not provided further information, and are listed as a courtesy
Emerging Program Emerging residency programs – those organizations that are in the process of developing new residencies
Open application Open application – those residencies that accept applications from artists, rather than invitation- or nomination-only residencies

  • Red Gate Residency

    organizational member Open application
    Beijing, China

Our vision for Red Gate Residency is to provide an environment for artists, curators, writers, and academics to easily start their projects and offer a community in which they can participate as much as they like.

As active members of ResArtis and the Alliance of Artist Communities, top worldwide networks of artist-residencies and residential art centers, we are committed to the promotion of multicultural art dialogue within an immersion setting.

The length of stay ranges from 1 month to 6 months (We prefer to take bookings by the full month). Applications are received on a rolling basis and reviewed by a selection committee at the end of each month. Although at times we may have last minute space available, our facilities commonly fill six months in advance so we encourage an early application.

Apply to Red Gate Residency ONLINE:

Every two months Red Gate and our residents coordinate an informal but well attended Open Studio exhibition showcasing the projects our artists have been working on during their residency.

More information regarding our residencies including facilities photos can be found on our website at regateresidency.com and photos from our current residencies can be found on our blog at redgateresidency.blogspot.com.
