One of the greatest luxuries an artist can have is a day in which nothing has to be done. No one to see, nowhere to go, just the gorgeousness of all those unsubscribed minutes and hours, occurring to be used as one most passionately wants. In real life such days are rare, but here we are given that extraordinary gift every day.

2008 Conference - Meeting Sites

We are pleased to have Louisiana ArtWorks as our primary conference host, with additional hosting by A Studio in the Woods, Hot Iron Press, and New Orleans Creative Glass Institute.

Louisiana ArtWorks
This visually stunning, 93,000-square-foot visual arts facility includes ceramics, metal, glass, printmaking, and photography; a 5-story kiln and foundry atrium, and 18 artist-in-residence studios. Louisiana ArtWorks offers a place where creativity is celebrated as visual artists come face to face with the public to share in the fascination and excitement of the creative process.

A Studio in the Woods
A Studio in the Woods, a program of Tulane University located in 7.66 forested acres on the Mississippi River in New Orleans, is dedicated to preserving the endangered bottomland hardwood forest and providing within it a peaceful retreat where visual, literary and performing artists can work uninterrupted. Programming includes community workshops in the arts and environmental preservation, and an outdoor classroom where school children and university students can experience and study the natural world. The only live-in artists' retreat in the Deep South, A Studio in the Woods fosters both environmental preservation and the creative work of all artists.
