What to Know Before You Go

We look forward to welcoming you to Denver, CO for the Alliance of Artists Communities' 27th Annual Conference! Below are a few details you'll want to know before the conference begins.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


REGISTRATION

You may pick up your conference packet in the Alliance registration area at the Holiday Inn Express lobby (1715 Tremont Place, Denver, CO) at the following times:

  • Mon 10/2: 10:30am - 11:30am (for Artworks Loveland Preconference participants)
  • Mon 10/2: 4pm - 6pm

You may pick up your conference packet in the Alliance registration area at the History Colorado Center lobby (1200 N Broadway, Denver, CO) at the following times:

  • Tues 10/3: 8:30am - 4:30pm
  • Wed 10/4: 8:30am - 2pm
  • Thurs 10/5: 8:30am - 1pm

SPECIAL EVENTS

The following events are included in your registration. We hope to see you there!

  • OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION | Monday 10/2, 6pm - 8pm
    McNichols Building, 144 West Colfax, Denver, CO
    Help us kick off the 2017 Conference in style! Connect with old friends and make new ones during the festive opening reception at this contemporary Denver hub for arts, culture and events in a stunning Greek Revival building.
    Free for attendees! Cash bar and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

    Tip: Walk to McNichols with other attendees - meet in the Holiday Inn Express lobby by 5:45pm!

  • DENVER PARTY | Tuesday 10/3, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
    Clyfford Still Museum, 1250 Bannock Street, Denver, CO
    Celebrate during a fun, not-to-miss night of music, food and reveling in the arts. Come see one the most exciting museums in the country - recently called "a knockout" by the Los Angeles Times. Explore the Clyfford Still Collection and unwind on the expansive front lawn!
    Free for attendees! Cash bar and desserts will be served.

    Tip: Walk to McNichols with other attendees - meet in the Holiday Inn Express lobby by 6:15pm!

  • CLOSING PARTY | Thursday 10/5, 5pm - 7pm
    RedLine Contemporary Art Center, 2350 Arapahoe Street, Denver, CO
    Close out the conference with a special party at RedLine. Peek into resident artist studios and explore this dynamic platform for creativity and entrepreneurship. Join us for chill music, delicious food and a super group photo!
    Free for attendees! Beer/wine, food and music!
    Tip: All Thursday afternoon tours will end at RedLine (the Closing Party venue) not the Holiday Inn Express. Attendees wishing to return to the hotel can catch a shuttle back from Redline or take a Lyft from their tour site if they need to leave early. A bus will shuttle between RedLine and the Holiday Inn Express starting at 4:50pm, leaving approximately every 20 minutes.


WEDNESDAY FREE NIGHT DURING THE CONFERENCE

Wednesday 10/4 is a free night after the tours! Head to the ART Hotel between 6pm - 8pm for an informal meet up! Or check out one of the many great partner events - including a special exhibit at Denver's newest residency program - Minerva Projects. Find a list of recommended options here.


TOURS

Offsite tours will run Thursday and Friday afternoon. If you have not signed up for tours - or would like to change your tour preference - you can do so at the registration desk when you arrive. Read more about this year's offerings at: artistcommunities.org/conference/tours-events

If you are currently on the waitlist for a tour, please go to the tour pick-up location at the entrance of the hotel on the day of the tour. Spots often open up and will be granted in the order of the waitlist.


FUNDER CONSULTATIONS

We are excited to offer attendees the chance to participate in 15 minute, one-on-one consultations with national and regional funders - including the Knight Foundation, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts + more! There are a limited number of spots and we will reserve meetings on a first-come, first-served basis. Please visit the registration desk when you arrive to learn more about participating funders and to reserve your spot.


 

PRECONFERENCE + BOARD TRACK

Please note the following programs required advanced registration.

Anderson Ranch Arts Center Preconference Visit | Saturday, September 30 - Monday, October 2 - Registered attendees will receive a separate email with detailed information. If you believe you are registered for this preconference and did not receive an email, please contact info@artistcommunities.org.

Artworks Loveland Preconference Trip | Monday, October 2 - The bus for Artworks Loveland will leave from the Holiday Inn Express (1715 Tremont Place, Denver, CO) promptly at 11:30am on Monday, October 2nd. Attendees should check-in at the Alliance registration desk in the lobby of the Holiday Inn between 10:30am-11:30am to pick up a conference packet and boxed lunch for the ride to Loveland (approximately 55 minutes). The bus will drop you back off at the Holiday Inn Express by 4:30pm - in plenty of time to get ready for the Opening Party.

Board Track | Tuesday, October 3 - This special workshop runs for a full day, following the morning keynote presentation. Because this year's event has limited space available, please plan to attend the full program if you are registered.

If you are registered for the Board Track only, please plan to meet us at the History Colorado Center lobby between 8:30am - 9am to pick up your registration materials and to catch the welcome address and keynote. The Board Track escort will guide the group to the workshop site at the McNichols Building following the keynote. All Board Track attendees are welcome to join us for the Celebrate Denver Party at the Clyfford Still Museum from 6:30pm - 8:30pm that night!


MEETING + HOTEL LOCATIONS

Meeting sessions will take place at the History Colorado Center (1200 N Broadway, Denver, CO) unless otherwise noted. The conference hotel is the Holiday Inn Express (1715 Tremont Place, Denver, CO) - approximately 0.6 miles to History Colorado Center.

For distances greater than 0.8 miles, transportation will be provided to offsite tours and workshops. Your printed program lists all venue addresses and volunteer guides will accompany you to tours and parties.

Lyft is offering 20% off one ride between the Holiday Inn Express and the History Colorado Center for conference attendees. Download the discount code AAC20OFF now and it will be ready to use when you need it.


FOOD SERVICE

Coffee and tea will be available at the History Colorado Center throughout the morning. While breakfast is not provided during the conference, the Holiday Inn Express offers a complimentary hot breakfast, and there are several fantastic coffee shops and restaurants within a couple blocks of the hotel. Check out some recommendations here!

Lunch will be provided each day at the History Colorado Center. There are a limited number of vegetarian/vegan, gluten-free and other special meals available, based on the stated dietary needs on your registration form. The caterers at the hotel and event locations will do their best to accommodate dietary restrictions - though requests beyond vegan and gluten-free may not be available. Food will be labeled.

At evening receptions, light hors d'oeuvres will be provided. To continue the fun in your evening, excellent local dining options are listed here!


ATTIRE

Attendees generally wear business casual attire. You should dress to be comfortable for participating in sessions, and for being out and about on tours. Pack an umbrella and walking shoes.


ACCESSIBILITY

The Alliance is committed to meeting the accessibility needs of all attendees. All plenary presentations will be CART captioned. Conference sessions and evening events are wheelchair-accessible. Wheelchair accessible tours are noted in the descriptions.

The deadline for additional accessibility requests was September 1st, but we will do our best to make additional accommodations with immediate notice. Should you have questions about accessibility, please contact the Alliance of Artists Communities at (401) 351-4320 or info@artistcommunities.org.


PROMOTIONAL LITERATURE

While you are welcome to bring a small number of copies of your organization's brochures/publications to share on your own with other attendees, we will not provide tables for displaying literature. To avoid wasted materials, in lieu of literature display, we will have a slide show of attendees' organizations.


OTHER ITEMS YOU MAY WANT TO BRING

  • Comfortable shoes for walking tours
  • Umbrella
  • Water bottle
  • Water will be provided in meeting rooms, but because of Denver's high altitude we strongly recommend carrying water with you to stay hydrated.
  • Clothing layers

ARRIVING + DEPARTING FROM DENVER

Denver International Airport (DIA) is located 23 miles from downtown Denver and is conveniently connected to the city center via lightrail. Holiday Inn Express is located at 1715 Tremont Place in downtown Denver, CO.

Taxi/shuttle/public transit: The Light Rail - University of Colorado A Line - is the easiest and cheapest way to travel to and from the airport ($9 for a day pass). Taxi / Lyft service are also available (approximately $55 before gratuity).

If you are leaving on Thursday and attending an afternoon tour, please be advised that tour buses will go straight to the Closing Night Party at RedLine Contemporary Art Center following the tours (arriving at about 4:30pm). Plan to bring your luggage on the tour with you - or to take the shuttle back to the hotel from RedLine at 4:50pm.
