What To Know Before You Go!

We look forward to welcoming you to Kansas City, Missouri! We have record-breaking attendance this year and more sessions, performances, and tours than ever before. Below are a few details you'll need to know before the conference begins.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

REGISTRATION
You may pick up your conference packets at the following times/locations:

  • Tue 10/30: 4:30 - 5:30pm at Hotel Phillips
  • Wed 10/31: 8:30am - 5pm at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center
  • Thu 11/1: 8:30am - 2pm at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center
  • Fri 11/2: 8:30am - 1:30pm at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center

OPENING NIGHT
Join us for an opening night reception – Tue 10/30, 6-8pm – with beer, wine and hors d’ouevres at Kansas City Artists Coalition (201 Wyandotte St). Buses will depart from Hotel Phillips (106 W 12th Street) for KCAC between 5:45pm and 6:15pm; latecomers may take cabs from the hotel or walk 0.7 miles to KCAC.

MEETING LOCATIONS
Meeting sessions will take place at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center (4801 Rockhill Road), a 10-minute drive from Hotel Phillips (106 W 12th Street). Buses will leave Hotel Phillips for the Kauffman Center each morning at 8:15am and 8:30am; latecomers may take cabs from the hotel.

FOOD SERVICE
Continental breakfast will be available at the Kauffman Center during morning sessions; the Hotel Phillips has a restaurant on-site for attendees in need of a full breakfast. Lunches will be provided each day at the Kauffman Center. Heavy hors d’ouevres will be provided at evening events. There are a limited number of vegetarian/vegan and other special diet meals available, based on your stated dietary needs on your registration form.

ACCESSIBILITY
All of our primary conference sites are accessible. Please note that a few of our optional destinations (e.g., walking tours) are not wheelchair accessible. Should you have questions about accessibility, please contact the Alliance at (401) 351-4320.

PRE-CONFERENCES

  • Lawrence Arts Tour | Tue 10/30, 12-5pm: If you signed up for the Lawrence Arts Tour, please meet in the lobby of the Hotel Phillips at 11:45am. The bus will depart at 12pm. Lawrence, Kansas, is 45 minutes from Kansas City. Lunch and refreshments will be provided to participants.
  • Urban Residencies Meeting | Tue 10/30, 1-5pm: If you signed up for the Urban Residencies Meeting, please meet in the Midland Room on the Mezzanine Level at the Hotel Phillips. Light refreshments will be provided.

TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE

  • AFTERNOON TOURS: If you have not yet specified which afternoon tours you wish to participate in, please check in at conference registration to confirm which tours still have availability. Tour descriptions can be found here (www.artistcommunities.org/conference/events-tours) and are free to conference participants.
  • HALLOWEEN + AUCTION PARTY: Musician Mark Southerland will create his award winning "Noise Camp" to usher in a Hallow's Eve unlike any other, with the help of the musicians of his candy-colored crew. Bid on amazing retreats, classes, and stays at artist communities across the country, as well as original art and jewelry to fit every budget. Come in your own Halloween attire, grab an accessory at the party, or stop by our facepainting station. A prize will be awarded for most inspired costume of the night! (costumes, wigs, hats, masks, or funny accessories are encouraged, though not required for this event). Tickets are $35 (including cocktails and food) and can be purchased in advance at www.artistcommunities.org/auction or at the conference.

PROMOTIONAL LITERATURE
While you are welcome to bring copies of your brochures/publications to share individually with other attendees, we will not provide tables for displaying literature. Each year, several boxes of literature are recycled and a great deal of paper and materials are wasted.

OTHER THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO BRING

  • Business cards
  • Comfortable shoes for tours
  • Umbrella
  • Travel mug or water bottle
  • Halloween costume or accessories

ARRIVING IN KANSAS CITY
The Kansas City International Airport is 30 minutes away from downtown Kansas City. The Hotel Phillips is located at 106 W 12th Street; the Crowne Plaza is located at 1301 Wyandotte Street.

If you take a cab from the airport (average $50), please note that travelers must call for taxis from the courtesy phone, located within the double doors near baggage claim.
