The Alliance’s first-ever Regional Meeting was held at the Fine Arts Work Center on the tip of Cape Cod, and was attended by more than twenty members, most from the Northeast. The meeting focused on three important issues: board development, marketing and promotion, and community relations. The mini-conference was the pilot program for future meetings, and was designed to address the needs of our members by making networking opportunities affordable and more easily accessible. The intimate, informal style lent itself well to candid discussions and forging new relationships. Many members went away feeling reinvigorated and hopeful for future collaborations.

The shining heart of the residency was silence and solitude; the opportunity to wrestle with visions and fasten them to the page, to face myself, reflected in a window opening into wildness. For me, this time was a turning point in a lifetime of writing. In the midst of struggling with the perpetual self-doubts and uneven leaps forward of every artist’s life, I came to a place of clear certainty about the power and trustworthiness of what I do.
