Admissions Manager | Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT)

Job Summary:

The Vermont Studio Center seeks a full-time Admissions Manager with proven leadership experience to oversee all aspects of the VSC Admissions process. This position reports to and works closely with the Program Director to manage and improve application, recruitment, and enrollment processes while meeting earned income targets. The Admission Manager oversees and coordinates all aspects of VSC’s application jury process and coordinates with the admissions staff to ensure friendly, effective communication with residents, current and prospective applicants, and alumni. This position requires a background in arts management, education, and/or teaching and a deep familiarity with the contemporary arts and literature landscape. In addition, the Admissions Manager must have a good working knowledge of database/CRM programs (SalesForce knowledge preferred), SlideRoom or other application management program, and standard office software applications (Microsoft Word/Excel or equivalent).

Major Duties:

o Manage admission priorities to ensure applicant quality, numbers, and full enrollment.
o Field phone and email inquiries about the residency, application process, fellowship opportunities, financial packages, visual arts program, and the joint low-residency MFA program with Johnson State College.
o Supervise Admissions Assistant and work-exchange assistants.
o Work with Marketing Manager to assist with timely promotion of all fellowship deadlines
o With Program Director and Marketing Manager, coordinate regular review and update of all materials sent to applicants and enrolled residents, including letters and the online handbook.
o Participate in resident arrival and departure activities throughout the year.
o Work with Database Manager to oversee admissions database use for best practices, including staff training, systematic review of data and import accuracy, and purging outdated records to ensure data and information quality.
o Work with Travel Coordinator to coordinate resident work-exchange assignments and prepare for changeover as necessary
o Work with the Program Director and Visual Arts Director to plan the annual program of Visiting Artists and Writers.
o Assist with general office priorities and performs other duties as necessary.

Major Skills:

o Excellent organizational skills, facility managing multiple projects simultaneously and able to meet frequent deadlines.
o Excellent interpersonal and time management skills required.
o Understanding of and appreciation for VSC’s mission and the capacity to communicate that mission with a wide array of stakeholders
o Strong written and verbal communication skills; database experience required.
o Able to work as part of a team with varying communication styles.
o Experience with supervising and job training preferred.
o Has drivers license, willing and able to drive VSC van with small groups of residents. Like all VSC Admissions staff, the Admissions Manager must be available to answer questions, maintain a comfortable and appropriate working atmosphere, and foster high morale among VSC’s resident and applicant populations.
