Director of Development & Outreach | Hedgebrook (Whidbey Island, WA)

Hedgebrook supports visionary women writers whose stories and ideas shape our culture now and for generations to come. We are seeking a passionate and innovative fundraiser to join our senior leadership team as the Director of Development & Outreach (DDO). Hedgebrook is wellpositioned to expand its reach and its “ripples”, and we need an experienced communicator, capacity builder, and impact storyteller to help us make our vision a reality. As our DDO, you will have the remarkable opportunity to be part of a committed community of women writers, readers, and change agents from all over the world, and to make a significant impact on this organization during an exciting period of growth and evolution.

The Role of the DDO:
The Director of Development & Outreach (DDO) will work closely with the Leadership Team to develop, implement, and manage all aspects of fundraising, communications, and marketing. They will develop and lead innovative strategies to steward and cultivate existing donors, and to expand our philanthropic community both locally and nationally. They will foster strategic partnerships and build a robust program to grow foundation and corporate philanthropic support. In addition, they will oversee Hedgebrook’s communication and marketing strategies, including PR/marketing, social media, and creation of compelling storytelling content. To accomplish all this, the DDO will lead and manage a development team made up of 4 core staff (Assistant Director of Development & Outreach, Development & Outreach Associate, Development & Outreach Coordinator, and a Donor Database Manager), as well as occasional contract labor, Seattle-based interns, work-study students, and additional community volunteers as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. The salary range is $85,000 to $95,000, depending on experience. Hedgebrook offers a generous benefits plan including 10 days of paid vacation in the first year, as well as 10 days of discretionary time off in lieu of holidays (giving staff members the flexibility to decide which holidays they prefer to observe). Medical, dental, and vision insurance are offered, as well as paid sick leave. Hedgebrook offers a 401b retirement savings plan matched by the organization after the first year of employment.
