Director of Programs | A Blade of Grass (Brooklyn, NY)

Overview

A Blade of Grass is the first arts nonprofit solely dedicated to nurturing socially engaged art.

Founded in 2011, ABOG accomplishes this primarily through our Fellowship for Socially Engaged Art, a unique hybrid program that pairs philanthropic support with field research, web and print content, documentary films, and public programs that build audience and understanding for socially engaged art. The goals of the Fellowship are to give artists the financial support they need to thrive, while building audience, understanding, and advocacy for artists working in the context of everyday life.

ABOG is seeking a Director of Programs who can strategically direct an increasingly high profile ABOG Fellowship program and its attendant content and public programming. Salary range is $60-$75K based on previous experience. To apply, please send a cover letter and CV to info@abladeofgrass.org.

• Ability to effectively manage content creation over multiple projects
• Demonstrable understanding of socially engaged art
• Proactive, flexible, effective manager with strong problem solving skills who can lead a responsive, adaptable program
• Ability to incorporate principles inherent to socially engaged art, such as a commitment to collaboration or the creative consideration of power dynamics, into one’s own workflow
• Comfort with ambiguity, capacity to learn from failure and experimentation
• Comfort interacting with a great range of stakeholders
• Specific experience working with content distribution a plus

Primary Responsibilities

• Partner with ED and Board to create and oversee an annual programs department plan that enacts ABOG’s vision and furthers strategic objectives
• Oversee annual content/story calendar that identifies public programming opportunities, site visits, production timelines
• Oversee day to day operations and administration of the Fellowship program, both the open call and current year projects
• Partner with artists, film crew, and staff to create and distribute thoughtful content about Fellowship projects
• Act in a curatorial/presentation capacity during cultivation and fundraising events where art is being showcased
