Residency Manager | Elsewhere Studios (Paonia, CO)

The position of Elsewhere Studios Residency Manager reports directly to the Elsewhere Studios Executive Director. In his/her absence, s/he reports to the President of the Coyote School/Elsewhere Studios Board of Directors. This position is responsible for overseeing the residency facilities, attracting Artists, Musicians, and Writers in Residence to Elsewhere Studios, daily management of the residency program, and community outreach through the performance of the following:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Recruit future residents: Respond to all phone, social media, and email inquiries about Residency Program in a timely manner. Create PR for residency applications. Post residency deadlines and update information on Artist Residency sites and Elsewhere website. Maintain database of inquiries, past artists, etc.

Oversee process of applicant selection. Schedule residencies. Complete contracts with residents:

Process incoming applications, set up review committee to make selections and prepare application materials for the committee, mail responses to all applicants, schedule accepted residents, complete contracts and collection of deposits for residencies.\

Facilitate residencies: Facilitate arrival and departure of accepted residents as well as transportation, if needed. Conduct resident orientations and tours. Conduct weekly group meeting with residents and other check-ins with artists, as needed. Address concerns/needs as they arise, in consultation with ED.  Check out artists at end of stays and determines return of deposit.

Oversee residency facilities: Oversee weekly cleaning and other tasks assigned to residents (i.e. garden watering, snow shoveling). Arrange for cleaning at end of resident stays, inform ED of repairs needed.

Manage community outreach activities: Conduct community outreach for the Residency Program through Open Studios, Meet and Greets, and other events to increase visibility of the program and community participation. Create PR for events. Introduce residents at events. Work with Community Liaison Coordinator to facilitate connections between artists and liaisons.

Website Maintenance: Update artists’ pages, blog pages, and events pages.

Monthly report Submit brief monthly update/report and work hour log to ED prior to each board meeting. Report to include info about upcoming events and upcoming artist residents and log to document time spent on duties and responsibilities.

Conduct program evaluations: Conduct follow-up evaluation with each resident. Log attendance numbers for community events. Gather information from potential applicants regarding how they heard about Elsewhere.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Conscientious, efficient, and self directed
    Highly organized, reliable, acts with integrity
    Able to work independently as well as an integral part of a team
  2. Able to communicate effectively with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  3. An excellent writer and contributor of ideas
    Comfortable with computers and with website maintenance
    Proficient in Word, Excel, Google drive, Mailchimp, Squarespace and social media platforms including Facebook & Instagram.
  4. Able to work flexible hours. (Hours vary weekly and include some nights and weekend hours for events.)
  5. Has some background in the arts, and understanding of artists’ unique working needs & overall creative process.
  6. Has own car, computer and cell phone.
  7. Ability to do physical activities such as: Climb ladders, lift up to 25 lbs, do some garden work, snow removal.

NOTE: Please be aware that Elsewhere has a resident cat, “Tomatoes”, so severe Cat allergies may pose a problem.
