The National Endowment for the Arts announced its first round of funding for fiscal year 2009, awarding $23,215,500 in funding to support 1,951 projects by nonprofit national, regional, state, and local organizations nationwide, as well as to 42 poets.
Among the grantees for the first round of funding for 2009 are 20 Alliance members, to receive $470,000 in grants from the NEA. (see below)
Beginning in 2009, organizations whose primary purpose is to provide artists' residencies will have their own funding category at the NEA - "Artists Communities." Applications for funding, for this and other Access to Artistic Excellence grants, are due in March 2009 (tentative deadline, March 12). This coming year is a great opportunity to show the strength and diversity of the artists' residency field, with this new acknowledgement of the importance of our work. We look forward to celebrating more funding success in the future!
