Visions from the New California recognizes outstanding, under-recognized, visual artists from California. Six artists are selected each year, and are awarded a one-month residency at one of six California artists' residency programs, and a $4,000 stipend. Application deadline is June 1, 2009. An initiative of the Alliance of Artists Communities, and supported by The James Irvine Foundation, Visions from the New California aims to recognize artists who represent the racial/ethnic demographic mix of California, who live throughout the state (particularly beyond the San Francisco and Los Angeles metropolitan areas), and who work in a range of visual art media.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be permanent California residents.
- Current students are not eligible.
- Individuals who have completed a residency at any of the participating Visions from the New California sites, and artists who have been awarded more than one previous residency elsewhere, are not eligible.
