I left [my residency] forever changed, forever marked as a person. I left with the certainty that I am a writer, with a commitment to the creative life that I have never since questioned or doubted. I left understanding that separation and seclusion are essential in order to create, but also that life must necessarily surround us at all times, shaping and inspiring and even distracting us.

Ox-Bow & the Importance of Artists' Communities

Friday, July 9, 2010 - 6:30pm
Grand Rapids, MI
Hosted by Ox-Bow and Grand Rapids Art Museum

Ox-Bow and the Grand Rapids Art Museum celebrate their centennials with a lecture series exploring a century of art-making. The series kicks off with Caitlin Strokosch, Executive Director of Alliance of Artists Communities.

For a century, artists' communities have provided time and space to our most creative artists - from Marcel Duchamp to Ed Paschke, Aaron Compland to Quentin Tarantino. They have been a steadfast force in nurturing the development of new creative work and the individuals who challenge and inspire us. Ox-Bow has been at the forefront of this movement sinc its founding in 1910, blending tradition and innovation, evolving to meet the needs of today's artists and providing an environment where new ideas are born and exchanged, and where creative sparks fly.
