Ucross Foundation Gala & Awards Dinner Honoring Annie Proulx to Take Place in New York on June 5th

New York, NYUcross Foundation​, the prestigious artists’ residency program and creative lab for the arts, will host the inauguralUcross Gala & Awards Dinner​​ on June 5th, 2018, at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Internationally acclaimed author ​Annie Proulx, an alumna of Ucross and former member of its Board of Trustees, will be presented with the Ucross Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Arts, by ​David Remnick, Editor in Chief of ​The New Yorker.

The Ucross Gala & Awards Dinner celebrates the organization’s 35th year supporting writers, visual artists, composers, and choreographers with the gift of uninterrupted time and studio space for creative work. The Gala will include an art exhibition and sale featuring work donated by Ucross alumni including Byron Kim, Pamela Talese, Martirene Alcántara, Sydney Pursel, Karen Kitchel, Joni Sternbach, Bill Gilbert, Olive Ayhens, Rhona Bitner, Elisabeth Condon, Julie Evans, Andrew Ginzel, Julie Gross, Darina Karpov, Patrick Kikut, Nancy Manter, Eleanor Ray, Don Stinson, Ilene Sunshine, Amy Talluto, Austin Thomas, Josette Urso, Merrill Wagner-Ryman, Sarah Walker, Daniel Wiener and Amanda Wojick. The art collection, entitled Wide Skies: Ucross @ 35, is open for viewing and sale at, and in person at the Gala celebration. The evening will also include live performances and readings by a number of exceptional alumni including Steven Lutvak​ (​A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder​), Ricky Ian Gordon (​The Grapes of Wrath​, opera), bestselling author ​Tayari Jones​, author and Vanity Fair​ contributor ​Elissa Schappell​, trumpeter ​Frank London​, composer/pianist ​Dylan Mattingly​, and singer-songwriter ​Kate Schutt​. About Ucross Foundation: Located in northeast Wyoming in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains, Ucross fosters the creative spirit of deeply committed artists and groups by providing uninterrupted time, studio space, living accommodations, and the experience of the majestic High Plains, while serving as a responsible steward of its 20,000-acre ranch. Residencies are awarded to nearly one hundred artists each year. Ten artists are in residence at one time, typically a mix of four visual artists, four writers and two composers.

Since the first artists arrived at the Ucross ranch in 1983, Ucross has provided over 2,000 residencies to writers, visual artists, and composers, including such distinguished fellows as Annie Proulx, Terry Tempest Williams, Colson Whitehead, Elizabeth Gilbert, Ann Patchett, Ricky Ian Gordon, Bill Morrison, Theaster Gates, Anthony Hernandez, and recent Academy Award and Tony winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Other Ucross national partners include the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, the Pew Fellowships in the Arts, the Alliance of Artists Communities, and the PEN/Hemingway Award for Debut Fiction.
