It is hard to explain what it feels like to know that when you get up in the morning you can just sit and write — a journal, poetry, prose — all day long until you are too tired to pick up a pencil or sit at a keyboard, until your ability to put words together cohesively slips from your fingers — not from the fatigue of a long day at a job but from a long day of words bumping up against each other as they struggle to get from your brain to the page.

Property Manager

The Kentucky Foundation for Women seeks a highly responsible person knowledgeable about or willing to learn all aspects of grounds and property maintenance to serve as the full time resident Property Manager for Hopscotch House, the foundation’s retreat and residency center located on 10 acres, 13 miles from downtown Louisville, KY. The Property Manager must be committed to KFW’s mission of supporting feminist artists whose work advances social justice. The Property Manager must also be dedicated to maximizing the role Hopscotch House plays in nurturing creativity and feminist-led social change throughout Kentucky.

The Property Manager oversees facilities management and grounds keeping, monitors the Hopscotch House operations budget, and serves as the main contact person for vendors and contract services on location. As part of the KFW team, the Property Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with all staff on Hopscotch House programs and community building. Like all staff, the Property Manager practices compassion and respect to every member of the KFW community.

The Property Manager lives on site in a modern two-bedroom cottage, owned by KFW. Free housing, valued at $1,500 per month, is part of the compensation package. Reliable transportation is necessary since the Property Manager conducts errands and attends meetings at KFW’s downtown Louisville office. This position is a great opportunity for a person committed to advancing feminist art and social justice, who loves the land, enjoys doing a wide variety of tasks, has a good sense of humor, and takes pride in providing excellent facilities, services and feminist hospitality to diverse artists and activists from across Kentucky.

Applications due June 15, 2008. For a full job description and instructions on how to apply, please visit www.kfw.org.
