Preconference :: Know Before You Go

We look forward to welcoming you to the first-ever Arts + Ecology Preconference day as part of our 2014 Conference! Below are a few details you'll need to know before the event.

The Arts + Ecology Preconference will be held at the College of Charleston, Alumni Center room, 86 Wentworth Street. Please enter through the St. Philip Street entrance, by way of the courtyard [street view].

The Alumni Center is a pleasant 7 minute walk from the Francis Marion Hotel. [map]

The Preconference runs from 10am - 4:30pm. Registration will open in the Alumni Center lobby at 9:30am. Conference packets will be available at registration.

In an effort to keep the Preconference eco-friendly we are not printing any additional materials for this program. Please download the schedule ahead of time or bring a smartphone/device.

Similarly, while you are welcome to bring copies of your organization's brochures/publications to share individually with other attendees, we will not provide tables for displaying literature. Each year, several boxes of literature are recycled and a great deal of paper and materials are wasted. This goes for the full conference as well.

Preconference attendees are invited to bring a small object, or totem, representing some aspect of your home place and your work. Whether it be a rock, horseshoe, jar of pickles, roll of duct tape, it should provide a tangible connection to your work and community (airplane friendly, of course). We will gather these items and use them as conversation touch-points throughout the day.

Coffee, tea, and water will be available at the meeting site throughout the morning. While breakfast is not provided onsite, there are several fantastic coffee shops and restaurants within a block of the Alumni Center.

Lunch will be provided on site.

The Preconference meeting site is fully accessible. Should you have questions about accessibility, please contact the Alliance of Artists Communities at (401) 351-4320 or

We look forward to welcoming you to Charleston! Should you need any last-minute assistance, please email (Alliance staff will arrive early in Charleston and will not be available by phone).
