Research is the foundation for our advocacy work, our member services and new program development. From "Best Practices At A Glance" reports, to case studies, to in-depth investigations of our field, the Alliance seeks to create resources that will document, support and advocate for the field.
The Sustainabilty Project
What does sustainability look like for the field of artist residency programs? How can we model operational practices that reflect the unique challenges and values of this field in ways that are relevant, replicable, and responsive to change? In 2010, the Alliance of Artist Communities – in partnership with The Kresge Foundation – set out to address these questions and to better understand what makes up a healthy ecosystem for artist residency programs. The result of over 2,400 pages of data, hunderds of hours of analysis, case studies, site visits, and interviews – this report offers an asessment of residency programs, tools for organizational self evaluation and a new curriculum for professional development and training. Artist Residencies + Dance
Published by the Alliance of Artists Communities in April 2011, "Mind the Gap: Artist Residencies and Dance" examines the landscape of artist residencies for dancemakers: how does the field of artist residencies currently support dance? How well are dancemakers aware of this support? And what resources are needed for the field to better support dancemakers? Learn more about Dance Residencies and the Alliance and read the report here.
