We believe that for artists to flourish they sometimes need time and space to open up their minds. We, as artists, would like to share the wonders and inspiration of Chicago with you. Our goal is to provide other artists and writers with an opportunity to get away into the urban landscape; to be inspired by the city, its music; its neighborhoods, its culture; or simply have the time to work without distraction.
Writers or artists of all disciplines are welcome to participate and share the space with other creative individuals. Each day will be an opportunity to work, research, explore and communicate your experiences, joys and challenges of being a creative individual. During this week you will meet with other participants and some Chicago artists; our city has one of the most vibrant cultural art communities in the country.
encies are at the House of Two Urns Bed and Breakfast in Wicker Park, an artist-run inn hosting guests from around the globe since 1991. Located in Wicker Park, very close to downtown, the inn is convenient to public transit to and from airports and trains and is just 3 blocks from a major expressway.
The Writer's Residency will provide you with a concentrated block of time for writing without major distractions for 6 days; we encourage writers to visit the city for research if they need to do so or for enjoyment in the evening, but to use this time to focus on work within this peaceful and quiet environment to be productive. A salon is held on Saturday evening where residency participants and local writers will meet and talk.
The Artist's Retreats are an invitation for artists of all disciplines to re-discover and be inspired by Chicago. Unfortunately, we cannot provide studio space, but you will be able to visit many of Chicago's museums, galleries and urban treasures; research; be inspired by the cityscape; share space and ideas with other artists in residence and artists from Chicago to forge lasting relationships. Salons are held on Friday and Saturday evenings where residency participants and local artists will meet and talk. A tour to a local artist's studio or workspace can be arranged based on the interests of the participants.
