Gushul Studio + Gushul Cottage

Non-member

The University of Lethbridge, Department of Art, has an Open Call for applications to partake in our Residency Program available for professional artists or writers at any stage of their careers. The Residency is referred to as the Gushul Studio and Gushul Cottage after Thomas Gushul, a prolific and pioneering Canadian photographer, who founded the studio which has been registered as historic resource by the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation. The studio and cottage are situated in proximity to one another in the town of Blairmore, Alberta, and nestled within the spectacular eastern slope of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The one-bedroom cottage can accommodate from one to two artist/writers. The Studio can accommodate one artist to a four person collaborative team. The large studio has an abundance of northern light and the workspace necessary to produce large works. It is the central feature of a fully furnished house with two-bedroom loft. There is a large private bedroom with a double bed and an additional semi-private room with twin beds. Both the cottage and the studio are comfortably equipped with all living and working amenities, including a well-appointed kitchen, bath and laundry facilities, wireless high-speed Internet and local telephone service. The Studio rental rate is $800/month whereas the Cottage costs $600/month and either space can be rented up to a four month period. The selection process entails application reviews conducted by a committee that focuses on the professional experience of the applicant, the quality of past work, and the applicant’s potential to have a productive residency at the Gushul. For information and full details related to application procedures and requirements, please refer to https://www.uleth.ca/finearts/art/gushul-residency-program-application-g...

The facility has hosted over 200 artists and scholars. It is open to both Canadian and non-Canadian professionals from all around the world and includes professions such as photographers, painters, filmmakers, video/audio artists, installation/digital artists for writers, critics, etc.
