Northern Clay Center

Non-member

Northern Clay Center manages several grant programs, which make monetary awards to individual artists. While each is based on varying sets of criteria and eligibility, there are several operating principles that are common to our grant programs as a whole:

  • We believe that artistic merit is of primary importance in grant-making decisions.
  • We believe that panelists should be chosen to represent a diversity of expertise, gender, race, and geography.
  • We believe that contemporary craft is increasingly influenced by multi-cultural shifts, requiring us to evaluate artistic excellence from an increasingly broad range of aesthetic criteria.
  • We are committed to supporting a diverse pool of ceramic makers, whether through grants, exhibition opportunities, residencies, partnerships, or educational initiatives. As such, Northern Clay Center has adopted the following policy related to its grant-making activity.

Northern Clay Center encourages applicants who represent the full range of artistic styles, and is committed to supporting a diverse pool of artists whose work demonstrates strong artistic merit. Accordingly, awards for our grant programs will represent, as possible, artists and initiatives that are diverse in genre, expertise, gender, race, ethnicity, and geography.
