Soap Factory

Emerging Program member

The Soap Factory Artists-in-Residence Program supports emerging and mid-career artists and curators working across all disciplines and is open to local, regional, national, and internationally-based artists. We offer one to twelve-month residencies, creating a shared space for artistic dialogue and international cultural exchange for an extended period of time.

In addition to a private studio, stipends, and housing coordination, residents receive substantial career development support including opportunities to exhibit in our main and lower level galleries, photo-graphic and video documentation, guest studio visits, artist-talks, and public openings. Residency artists also benefit from the AIR community; including ongoing dialogue with fellow residency artists, informal gatherings, inter-studio visits and activities, as well as monthly field trips and meals together. The program and facilities are designed to create a community, foster the expansion and exchange of artistic and cultural practices, and provide artists with exposure to the Twin Cities and its arts ecosystem.

Location

Minneapolis, Minnesota: United States

Minneapolis and St. Paul have a rich artistic community containing a handful of large art museums as well as a varied collection of gallery spaces and DIY spaces. The art community here is very well connected and supportive. The Soap Factory is located right along the Mississippi river and just across the walkable Stone Arch Bridge from downtown Minneapolis. It is easy to get around and explore the Twin Cities by bike, bus, and transit.
