Urban Bush Women | Summer Leadership Institute

Non-member

Urban Bush Women (UBW) seeks to bring the untold and under-told histories and stories of disenfranchised people to light through dance. Working from a from a woman-centered perspective, as members of the African Diaspora community, UBW seeks to create a more equitable balance of power in the dance world and beyond--through facilitating the use of art as a means of addressing issues of social justice and by encouraging civic engagement.

The 10-day UBW Summer Leadership Institute connects dance professionals and community-based artists in a learning experience to leverage the arts as a vehicle for social activism and civic engagement and to strengthen the national network of community arts practitioners. In 2009 the Summer Leadership Institute moved to New Orleans.
