Azule: Mountainside Artist Residency
As an emerging community-based organization, Azule has developed a retreat and residency program for craftspeople, writers, architects, builders, researchers, and artists of all types. Azule’s mission is to provide an environment where artists and community meet, work, and learn together through the arts in their many forms. Located in Western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, our facility is the result of decades of work by local craftspeople, using predominantly locally harvested or reused materials and constructed with traditional techniques.
Residents are each provided a room (shared or private) with a bed, work space, and beautiful views of our Appalachian setting. The remainder of the structure is communal and includes a full kitchen, dining area, library, and various side rooms and open spaces that serve as work space, gathering space, and studio space as needed.
We invite residents to join us to enjoy a retreat from everyday life where there is time and space to relax, dream, and create. We now accept and process applications on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Application Information
We review & select applicants on a rolling, first-come first served basis. All applicants, regardless of past residency, must fill out and submit our online Application Form.
We accept most applicants as long as proposed projects do not violate our code of conduct & are respectful of all residents and staff. You can expect to hear back from us in 1-2 weeks from your completed application.
Plan ahead & apply for your preferred dates well in advance, as we cannot hold space without a deposit.
Due to the number of bedrooms at Azule, and in order to provide each resident with ample space to work, we only accept 1-4 residents at any point in time. If you would specifically like to apply for a time frame where you will be at Azule at the same time as another resident, please indicate this on your application and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Residents are each provided either a private room ($50/night, double occupancy $75) or a dormitory bed ($40/night), a separate shared workspace, and expansive views of our Appalachian mountains.
The remainder of the structure is communal and includes a full kitchen, dining area, library, and various side rooms and open spaces that serve as workspace, gathering space, and studio space as needed.
The kitchen is stocked with cooking instruments, coffee & tea makers, serving ware & utensils. There is a limited pantry that includes some cooking oils, teas, and other misc items.
