Whether attending the lively discussions, studio tour, or gallery opening at Bemis Center for the Contemporary Arts; touring KANEKO, Omaha’s newest museum, and Jun Kaneko’s studio; or strolling through the Old Market district, the attendees enjoyed Midwestern hospitality and congeniality. The discussions ranged from a panel on building successful partnerships, a thoughtful dialogue on balancing regionalism/provincialism with a desire for greater visibility nationally, and a workshop on establishing a dynamic identity.

My residency was a life-changing experience, which opened many doors in my quest to both preserve tradition and find valid ways of contributing fresh, personal, and contemporary material to the genre.
