La Porte Peinte: Open Call for May 2025

Associated Residency Program

La Porte Peinte is an international arts centre located in Noyers sur Serein, a medieval village in Burgundy that is celebrated as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. Nestled within an elegant curve of the Serein river, the medieval cité of Noyers sur Serein sits in a pastoral northern Burgundy landscape of cherry trees, wheat fields, rolling meadows, forests and world-renowned vineyards. Deer, wild boar, pheasants and foxes roam the countryside, which is dotted with storied châteaux, quaint market towns and centuries-old stone abbeys. The UNESCO heritage site Vezelay is 30 minutes away.

Based in a rambling medieval half-timbered building that leans out over the village square like something from a fairy tale, La Porte Peinte offers artists, makers, musicians and writers in residence the opportunity to engage in creative exploration and exchange in an unusually inspiring and supportive environment. Doors opened in September 2011 with the first artists in residence and the launch of the 160 m2 ground-floor gallery, followed later by the opening of a café and a shop. La Porte Peinte’s five comfortable bedrooms are supplemented by four bedrooms in a nearby annex, another imposing and atmospheric medieval house. There are eight private studio spaces, along with workshop spaces and event spaces that are available for classes and performances. Along with residency accommodation, each creator in residence chooses from among those available the private studio space

While most residencies are artist-funded, we also offer a limited number of fully and partially funded residencies. We offer occasional themed and partnership residencies, and we are delighted to offer family residencies during specific periods. (Unless specified as a family residency, usually it is preferable for a resident not to be accompanied by a non-working companion, but we will consider such requests. If an artist wishes to bring a child but not as part of a family residency, we would endeavour to arrange for full-time child-care, for which there would be a supplementary fee.)

In addition to our core self-directed residency programme, we offer individually tailored mentored residencies for artists, writers and creators of any age.

2025 Grand Canyon Artist in Residence

Associated Residency Program

The Artist in Residence program at Grand Canyon National Park offers artists the opportunity to practice and share their discipline with park visitors at one of the most beautiful sites in the world. Through impactful, site-specific, community-engaged work, the program seeks to inspire the community to deepen their knowledge of Grand Canyon National Park.

The program is tied directly to the National Park Service Interpretation and Resource Education goal of inclusive storytelling and Grand Canyon Conservancy’s mission to inspire generations of park champions to cherish and support the natural and cultural wonder of Grand Canyon.

Contemporary artists focused on site-specific community engagement, social practice, and immersive or interactive artworks are encouraged to apply. We seek a variety of voices and strategies for engaging our visitors in underrepresented stories about the park.

Annually, three artists are selected to live and work on the South Rim of Grand Canyon in Arizona. Artists in Residence stay in a private apartment overlooking the Canyon for 3-10 weeks and receive media exposure, a weekly stipend, and modest support with supply and travel costs. Additionally, residents have special access to Grand Canyon National Park, park leadership, staff expertise, on-site resources, archives, and international visitors. Alumni are often invited to participate in additional opportunities like proposal reviews, webinars, blog posts, and local exhibitions.

Artistic Director

Established in its current form in 1985 under the leadership of Chairman John V. Lindsay, Director Gregory Mosher, and Executive Producer Bernard Gersten, Lincoln Center Theater (“LCT”) has been named "the pre-eminent theater in the country" by The New York Times. Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director André Bishop since 1992, LCT is one of the leading nonprofit theaters in the country and one of 11 autonomous constituents of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and like its neighbors, the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet, New York Philharmonic, among others, operates as an independent 501(c)(3) with its own Board of Directors, artistic management, administrative staff, and fundraising operation. LCT and its outstanding productions have received many of the highest accolades, including 87 Tony Awards, 89 Drama Desk Awards, 77 Outer Critics Circle Awards, 29 Obie Awards, 12 New York Drama Critics Circle Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It will celebrate its milestone 40th-Anniversary season with the 2024-2025 season.

With three theatres on site, LCT produces a regular annual program of new plays and musicals as well as cherished revivals in the 1,050-seat Tony-eligible Vivian Beaumont Theater, the 299-seat Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, and from time to time, in rented Broadway venues. Its third theater is LCT3, a bold initiative devoted to producing work by the next generation of artists and engaging new audiences. Created in 2008, LCT3’s productions are presented at the 112-seat Claire Tow Theater, which opened in June 2012 on the Beaumont complex rooftop.

The Studios is a unique residency housed in MASS MoCA - one of the world's largest contemporary art museums. LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR APPLICATION PROCESS HERE

GENERAL APPLICATION:

Most people apply through our general application, which is typically for residencies 3-9 months out from the award date. In our regular application, you can opt to be considered for financial aid or one of our fully funded fellowships. Because our regular application includes financial aid, it is our most competitive option. Artists requesting financial aid typically pay between $0 - $450/wk depending on their needs. This application is also available in Spanish. Deadlines for General Applications are June 8th or November 8th each year. The application will open two months prior to the deadline.

Learn more about our Financial Aid and Fellowships.

EARLY APPLICATION:

Our "Early Application" is for artists who could benefit from additional lead time to plan their stay (9 months - 15 months) and to apply for outside funding from sources such as their university or international or regional arts councils. Artists applying with the Early Application will NOT be considered for MASS MoCA's financial aid budget OR fellowships, so you should only use this particular application if you are planning to fully fund your stay through outside grants or personal funds at our already subsidized rate of $650 per week. Deadline for Early Applications are March 8th and October 8th. Application will open two months prior to deadline.

ALUMNI APPLICATION:

If you’re a Studios at MASS MoCA alum, we’re thrilled that you're interested in coming back! Each application cycle, we have a special, simplified application for you to tell us briefly what you’ve been up to since your prior residency. With this application, you’re only competing against fellow alumni, so while not as competitive as our general application, we only reserve a few alumni spots each season and acceptance is not guaranteed. Alumni are not eligible for residency fellowships or our reduced financial aid and instead pay a standard alumni rate of $400/wk for residencies of 4 weeks, or $450/wk for a 2-week residency. (Note students who have attended a workshop-in-residence are not considered eligible alumni for this opportunity) Alumni apps follow the Early Application timeline.

HOW TO APPLY:

APPLY NOW

Artists are invited to apply through Assets for Artists’ Submittable page. The application is always free to apply. You can join our mailing list to be kept up-to-date when our next application round opens.
