The Sally and Don Lucas Artists Residency Program (LAP) at Montalvo Arts Center is a creative incubator and cultural producer dedicated to investing in artists and their work. We support visual artists, composers, writers, performers, scholars, and others from around the world to undertake critical investigations of contemporary issues, and to create and present new and experimental works.

La Porte Peinte is an international arts centre located in Noyers sur Serein, a medieval village in Burgundy that is celebrated as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. Based in a rambling medieval half-timbered building that leans out over the village square like something from a fairy tale, La Porte Peinte offers artists, makers, musicians and writers in residence the opportunity to engage in creative exploration and exchange in an unusually inspiring and supportive environment. 

La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF) offers artists-in-residence a unique environment of interdisciplinary collaboration and creativity at the Château de La Napoule, in Mandelieu-La Napoule, France. Removed from the distractions of daily life and surrounded by the inspiring light of the Mediterranean, LNAF residencies provide an unencumbered setting to exchange ideas and create.

KODA is a nonprofit arts organization based in New York dedicated to mid-career artists of diverse backgrounds. We grant residencies to allow for experimentation and facilitate creative projects through strategic partnerships with socially engaged partners. We are the go-to thinking spot and serve the community through exhibitions of contemporary art, events and outreach to strengthen art education.

Located in a unique Prairie-style residential complex in the vibrant rural town of Nebraska City, Nebraska, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts awards up to seventy juried residencies per year to established and emerging visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists from across the country and around the world. Residency awards are 2 to 8-weeks in length. Each resident receives a $175 stipend per week, free housing, and a private studio.

Kala Art Institute’s mission is to help artists sustain their creative work over time through its Artist-in-Residence and Fellowship Programs, and to engage the community through exhibitions, public programs, and education. The heart of Kala’s mission as a vital, California art-making hub is supporting artists and engaging the community. Kala offers professional facilities to those working in and across printmaking and digital media, installation, sound, and performance.

Founding director and artist Melanie VanHouten established the Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) in 2009 on land that was formerly her grandparent’s farm. It is the only sculpture park in the state of Kentucky. JSP features over 80 artworks across 40 acres.

JSP’s mission is to connect people to each other and the land through the arts. The Park provides creative arts and nature education to the community and transformative opportunities to artists while conserving the beauty of native landscapes.

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC), located north of Milwaukee in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is known for promoting the understanding and appreciation of the work of self-taught and contemporary artists through exhibitions and commissioned works of art. Founded in 1967, JMKAC has preserved, studied, and exhibited artist-built environments, earning a worldwide reputation. Among its program offerings are community arts projects; artist residencies; and more. 

As a programmatic site of the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans hosts artist residencies, providing working spaces on the Center’s two-acre campus for both local and national artists. Located in the 7th Ward, the residency is a retreat for artists in a city rich with creative energy and cultural histories. Beginning with pilot programs in 2013 and officially opening in 2015, the Center has provided residencies to nearly 260 local and national artists.
